The Centre for Postnormal Policy & Futures Studies (CPPFS) was established by Ziauddin Sardar, as an institution driving education, policymaking, and advanced thought in futures studies at East-West University in Chicago, US. It was transformed into an international network in 2010. After working for thirteen years as Editor of Futures, a leading journal in futures studies, Sardar developed the notion, and worked to develop the theory of postnormal times. After consulting with his mentor Jerome Ravetz, one of the pioneers of Post-Normal Science, Sardar believed the ideas Ravetz and his college Silvio Funtowicz were investigating also described the problems found in social sciences and beyond. The CPPFS continues its dedication to advancing futures studies, building postnormal times theory, and demonstrating its potential for understanding and navigating the rapidly changing complex and chaotic world. Since 2016, the CPPFS has worked in numerous countries, organising workshops, conferences, exhibitions, as well as promoting futures literacy and awareness of postnormal times.
